3/13/2024 0 Comments Firewatch ending disappointingAudio: 4/5 - There isn't a whole lot of music, but what is there, fits game perfectly. There is more to it, but since the game isn't very long, I dont wanna take away too much from it. That's why he took the job to be a fire watch men. You're Henry, a guy in his late 30's who wants to just get away from his life, take a break. Story: 4.5/5 - As usual, I'm going to try to make it as spoilerfree as possible. What it does, it does well, however I can't give it more than 3/5 with a good conscience, considering most of the gameplay is just walking. The game doesn't really seem to pressure you into immediately doing these objectives, leaving some room for exploration too. You receive objectives from Delilah, who is your boss. Gameplay: 3/5 - Its a walking simulator, which isn't necessarily bad. Performance: 4/5 - Aside from occasional stutter here and there when the game is autosaving and presumably loading in new things, it runs great. Decently above average 65%ĥh 12m Played Visuals: 5/5 - Very stylized, so despite being almost 8 year old, the game still quite stunning. Didn't hate the whole experience, would recommend on sale as a good one and done. Gameplay wise tho it's really just a nice looking walking simulator, however if you aren't looking dead ahead at the trail where your path is and look around, the environments are very empty and the render distance on max feels tiny. Still, the concept is there but was executed meh. So it really came full circle, depressed at start, escaped reality, depressed at end as you still have to face the reality you escaped originally. You get so attached you lowkey wanna bang her when you are done with the summer, but then just as you are about to meet her and be at peak happiness, she tells you, no, be responsible, go mend shit and help ya wife bruddah. Then during your escape you grow fond of a the other female. Like the story begins as you are a depressed geezer trying to escape the reality of your wife's condition. I kind of get the ending and understand it but I feel like it was done so poorly and was super rushed. Right at things begin to resolve the game just ends. The story telling is well executed as you discover how it all unfolds. Eventually strange things begin to occur and it all seems to be connected. Solid character development is trickled in as you explore the area and learn about where you are spending your summer. Firewatch really felt like going on a one time experience over the summer that just cant be recreated.Ģh 30m PlayedThe game starts so strong, like insanely strong. Of course it turns out that it wasn't how it seemed, which leads to a melancholy, satisfying ending. The story takes a turn about half way through and becomes quite eerie, making wandering through nature, which used to be a nice relaxing experience, a bit more strenuous as it feels like you're always being watched. There are moments throughout the game where you'll just be hiking to a location on the map and the nice, relaxing music kicks in and its good to just be in the moment and enjoy the scenery. Its a sort of melancholy ending, like a summer fling that you had an amazing adventure with, has come to an end. The voice acting from Henry and Delilah are great and their back and forth is fun to listen to as they start off as strangers and become something more over the summer, only for Delilah to reaffirm at the end that her and Henry must both return to their normal lives and responsibilities. The colours, tone and music are all perfect at creating an almost therapeutic feeling while playing. The game is emotionally striking right from the offset by setting up Henry's life with Julia to give context for him escaping to nature for the summer to work in a firewatch tower. 4h 58m PlayedFirewatch is a beautiful game that encapsulated that feeling of escaping from your normal life for one summer and one summer only.
